Bessie Moody Tompkins

Bessie Moody Tompkins, age 93, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 13, 2019. She was born March 2, 1926, in Belmore, Florida to Joseph and Eva Moody. She was preceded in death by her husband, Tommy and her seven Brothers and sisters. Bessie is survived by her daughters, Pat Powell and Nancy Moore (Curtis), Grandchildren: Wayne Moore, Jennifer Gunter (Jimmy), Eric Powell (B.J.), and Karen Albert (Jamie), and eight great grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior as a young adult and was a member of First Baptist Church of Oceanway. She retired from the Duval County Tax Collector’s office with 25 years of service. In her later years, she enjoyed working in her yard and feeding the birds and wildlife. Bessie was always willing to give a helping hand when needed. We will miss her sweet smile and humble ways. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday March 19, 2019 at 11am in the First Baptist Church of Oceanway with Pastor Micha Strickland officiating. The family will receive friends at the church starting at 10am on Tuesday. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery, Jacksonville, FL.
