Gary Matz Obituary

Gary Allen Matz, age 62, of Jacksonville, Florida passed away on Monday, April 29th, 2019. Gary was born in Rittman, Ohio to the late George and Carol Lynne [Stender] Matz and had lived in Jacksonville for the past 39 years. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, godfather, brother and friend.

Gary devoted his life to God and family. He was very active in his community. He was involved in Girl Scouts of America, was the official scorekeeper for SMWAA softball and basketball leagues, drove the neighborhood church van, and was involved with the church youth group. Gary had a heart for the disabled and volunteered for 15 years at the Faith and Sharing, at Camp St. Johns, as a counselor.   He was a trained Barnum & Bailey’s Clown that enjoyed making children smile. He faithfully served his country for over 21 years, first with the United States Air Force and then with the US Army Corp of Engineers. Gary was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Carl Matz.

Survivors include his loving wife of 41 years, Jacqueline “Jackie” Matz; and his son, Dylan Ivey-Matz both of Jacksonville, FL; daughters, Tami Wright (Aaron) of Fleming Island, FL and Nicole Matz-Dilmuth (John) of St. Marys, GA; brothers, Ronald Matz and Donald Matz both of Norman, OK; grandchildren, Zoey Jade Matz and Kathleen Nicole Wright.

A celebration of Life service will be held at 10:30 am on May 10, 2019 in Mercy Fellowship Church with Pastor Parson Carson officiating. Interment with honors will follow in Jacksonville National Cemetery.
