Mrs. Hester (Cookie) Elizabeth Gammage, age 60, of Jacksonville, Florida passed away suddenly, Wednesday, August 28, 2019. Hester was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the daughter of the late John George and Hester (Shields) Handforth and had lived in Jacksonville for the past 32 years. After high school she continued to further her education and work diligently to complete her business degree at then FCCJ, making the Dean’s List during her efforts. She was the loving wife of Stanley Gammage and sister of Donna Handforth. Hester worked a total of 39 years and five months for the Federal government in positions including the United States Postal Service, the Army Corps of Engineers and most recently 19 years and 5 months for The Railroad Retirement Board.
Mrs. Gammage is survived by her beloved husband of 36 years, Stanley Fletcher Gammage, Jacksonville, FL; sister, Donna Handforth, Jacksonville, FL; sisters-in-law, Linda Drake, Alice Gammage and Mary Ann Gammage; aunts, Anna Mae Harvey and Clare Rutter; uncle, William Edwards and her loving cat, Fat Max, along with many close cousins.
