Alvin David Butler, Jr.

Alvin David Burler, Jr. of Yulee, Florida left his earthly home on September 10, 2021, at the Warner Community Hospice Center in Fernandina Beach, Florida with his fiancẽ and son at his side. David was born on October 11, 1946, in Jacksonville, Florida to the late Alvin David, Sr., and Jeanette Medford Butler. He moved to Yulee, Florida in 1972 where he resided for the remainder of his life. David served six years in the US Marine Corps Reserves during the Vietnam Era and was honorably discharged in 1969. He loved his country and was proud to be an American. After ending his military service, David joined the Ironworkers Union #597 and retired in 2011 after 41 years of service. He accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and was baptized on September 23, 2000, at Celebration Church in Yulee, FL. He lived what he believed and everyone who knew David was aware of his generous spirit, always available to help anyone, friend or stranger. After retiring, he spent many hours doing the things he loved; planting and tending his garden, going fishing, and spending time with family and friends. David and his loyal companion, Blue, could often be seen riding his golf cart in the neighborhood, stopping to visit with friends and neighbors.
David is survived by his loving fiancé, Cheryl Freeman of Yulee, FL; a son, Alvin David Butler, III and two granddaughters, Ella Rose Butler and Jana Guler of Atlanta, GA; one brother, Donald (April) Butler of Yulee, FL, three sisters, Judy Allen of Big Canoe, GA, Ginger (Travis) Hickox, and Jeanette Bryant of Jacksonville, FL; as well as numerous nieces and nephews, and a host of other family and friends.
A private family celebration of life will be held at a later date.
Donations may be made in David’s name to the Warner Community Hospice Center, 1348 S. 18th Street, Fernandina Beach, Florida.
