In Loving Memory of Bernard “Bernie” Duffy

October 6, 1932 – July 18, 2026

With heavy hearts and deep gratitude for a life beautifully lived, we announce the peaceful passing of Bernard “Bernie” Charles Duffy on July 18, 2026. Born on October 6, 1932, to Charles and Emme Duffy, Bernie is now reunited in Heaven with his parents, his two brothers, his three sisters, and his son-in-law, Kenny Weldon, whom he loved dearly.

A proud veteran and dedicated public servant, Bernie spent his life answering the call to help others. During the Korean War, his unit—the historic 159th Fighter Squadron 'Boxing Gators' of the Florida Air National Guard—was called to active federal service. He served as a Sergeant in the U.S. Air Force before receiving his honorable discharge on April 6, 1952. He then went on to protect his neighbors for many years as a volunteer firefighter with Oceanway Volunteer Fire Department, Station No. 51, leaving behind a profound legacy of safety and quiet patriotism.

Beyond his dedication to the public, Bernie’s gentle heart found true happiness in life’s simpler moments. He loved hunting, fishing, cheering on his favorite NASCAR drivers, and relaxing with classic western films. He also had a deep appreciation for music, never missed an opportunity to dance, and shared a unique bond with nature, faithfully hand-feeding the local birds and squirrels in his yard.

Family was the center of Bernie's world. His dependable nature, warm smile, and endless love created an enduring foundation for his loved ones. He is lovingly survived by his children, Ray (Diane) Duffy and Theresa Weldon; his five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren, alongside a close-knit community of extended family, neighbors, and friends.

Though we mourn his loss, we find peace knowing Bernie lived with profound purpose, generosity, and love. His light will forever shine through the family he cherished.

A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, July 24, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. at Cedar Bay Funeral Home. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
