Amaral - Bert Octavio Amaral, age 76, passed away peacefully on June 10, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. Born on July 6, 1949, in Azores Portugal, Bert immigrated to the United States in his early twenties in pursuit of new opportunities and a better life.  Bert spent many years working as a skilled tradesman. Following his retirement, he joined Home Depot, where he enjoyed helping people and formed many wonderful friendships.

A current resident of Jacksonville, Florida, Bert was known for his wisdom, worldly perspective, and always willingness to lend a helping hand. He loves sharing his knowledge and life experiences with all those around him. Whether offering advice, helping with a project, or simply being there when someone needed him, Bert's generosity touched so many lives. He had a special love for rescue animals, especially his beloved cats, whom he spoiled endlessly and cherished as family. Bert also dedicated his time and talents volunteering at the North Florida School of Special Education, where he helped with the school's horse program. Before relocating to Florida, Bert lived in Seekonk, Massachusetts, where he was involved in his community and spent many years coaching youth soccer. 

Bert was predeceased by his son, Joshua Amaral. He was the beloved son of the late Erminia Amaral.  He is survived by his loving wife, Lynda Amaral; son, Kyle Amaral of Jacksonville, Florida; and his sister, Gabriella Hannon and her late husband John from Rhode Island. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law, Debbie Fitzgibbons and her husband Patrick, and Kathy Walsh and her husband Declan; as well as many nephews and nieces.

Bert leaves behind a lifetime of memories and a lasting impact on all who knew him. Though he will be deeply missed, his spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched. Bert’s family will be Celebrating his life privately.  In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in his memory to the North Florida School of Special Education, 223 Mill Creek Road, Jacksonville, FL 32211 or to an animal welfare organization of your choice.
