Obituary

Wood - Clovis A. Wood, Jr., age 83, of Jacksonville, Florida, passed away on September 2, 2025. Clovis as born in Macon, Georgia and moved with his family to Jacksonville, Florida in the early 1950's. His father Clovis, Sr. was offered a job at St. Regis Paper Mill. They soon settled on Heckscher Drive by the banks of the St. Johns River to enjoy the salt life.

In 1958, Clovis married his high school sweetheart, Luline Sirmans and started a family. They all enjoyed fishing, shrimping, boating, kayaking and bird watching. Clovis was a long-time employee of the City Of Jacksonville, supervising public buildings; the Coliseum, Civic Auditorium, Prime Osborn Convention Center and finally the Police Memorial Building, before he retired in 2004. He earned the nickname "Woody" and was well liked by his employees and colleagues. Clovis was a simple man who enjoyed his own dock, exploring Kingsley Plantation, his family, country and bluegrass music and old black and white westerns. He loved the hilarious comedy of Red Skelton and enjoyed his famous byline, "Good night and may God bless."

Clovis was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Luline; granddaughter, Andrea Bristol; parents, Clovis and Garnita Wood, Sr.; and brother, Paul Garey Wood.
