David Franklin Sistrunk born in White Springs, Florida to Cone Sistrunk and Novella Strickland-Sistrunk peacefully passed away at the age of 89 on Tuesday, July 19, 2022. David who retired from Turner Electric Works and was a Navy Veteran is survived by his two daughters – Vicki Hinson and Donna Thomas, son-in-law Mickey Hinson, granddaughters Jessica Thomas and Whitney Hinson, grandson David Thomas, his wife Annika Thomas, and 3 great-granddaughters Alana, Katrina, and Layla. He is also survived by his extended family – Charlotte Greene, Tony and Debbie Greene, Teresa Buckley, Mike and Bonnie Greene, and their children and grandchildren. Dad, or Papa to the younger generations, loved spending time with family and friends. For many decades, his and Charlotte’s home was grand central station for Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve get-togethers.
He was an avid baseball and football fan, and it was key to remember not to get between him and the TV in the middle of a play. He played softball, golfed, and enjoyed bowling and fishing.
Funeral services will be held on Friday July 22, 2022 in the chapel of Cedar Bay Funeral Home, 405 New Berlin Road, Jacksonville, with Pastor Ike Matthews officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Jacksonville. The family will receive friends on Friday starting at 10am at the funeral home.
