Donald Wayne Johnson

Donald Wayne Johnson, known to many as “Duck” or “Donny”, passed away peacefully at home on October 9, 2024, at the age of 69. He is survived by his beloved wife of 40 years, Carolyn Hamil Johnson, and his two daughters, Katie Townsend (husband Kenneth Townsend) and Sarah Thomas (husband John Thomas). He was a proud and devoted grandfather to six grandchildren: Tyler, Riley, Kori Jo, John Wayne, Thomas, and Halle.

Donald is also survived by his seven siblings: Mary Ann Evans (Wayne), Diana Davis (L.A.), Jimmy Johnson (Mary), Cathy Notestone (Mike), Brenda Gill, and Mike Johnson (Vickie), along with numerous nieces and nephews, and lifelong friends all of whom he cherished deeply. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Wesley and Alma "Polly" Johnson, his sister Linda Anderson, and his brother-in-law Buddy Gill.

Raised in Oxford, Mississippi, Donald enjoyed a childhood full of adventures at Sardis Lake, where he spent time boating and skiing with his family thus turning into a lifelong love for the water. His love for family was a defining part of his life. He retired after in 2016 as a owner operator car hauler. He built a reputation for being honest, hardworking, and always willing to help anyone in need.

Above all, Donald found his greatest joy in his role as "Papa." He adored his grandchildren, and running "Papa Camp" was the highlight of his life, where he created countless cherished memories with them. His love and dedication to his family were evident in every aspect of his life.

Donald's life was marked by his unwavering commitment to his family, friends, and work. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

A Celebration of Donald’s Life will be held on Monday October 14, 2024, at 3pm In the Chapel of Cedar Bay Funeral Home 405 New Berlin Rd. Jacksonville FL, 32218

The Family will Receive Friends from 2-3pm at the Funeral Home.

Following the Service the Family will have a Dinner at BJ’s Brewhouse (RiverCity Marketplace)  at 5:00pm all are Welcome.
