Doris Marie Shirley, 81, died Tuesday, May 30, 2023, at her north side home with her family by her side. Doris was born December 2, 1941, in Jacksonville, Florida, to Jess and Maggie (Williams)Wingate. She had eleven siblings: one sister and nine brothers Doris married William “Billy” Shirley, on November 14, 1959. The two were each other’s lifelong. companions and friends. They were blessed with three children: William “Timbo”, Mary “Robin “and Melissa “Missy”. Doris worked various jobs over the years and retired from Bacardi Distributing Corporation. She was a homemaker, a creative and talented artist. Other hobbies included cooking, gardening, going to sporting events, and spending time with her grandchildren. Doris is survived by her children, William “Timbo” (Leila) Shirley, Mary “Robin” Shirley, Melissa (Teddy) Crosby, five grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, brother Jody Wingate, and many, many friends. Her husband Billy, parents, and siblings preceded her in death. Doris will especially be remembered for her creative talent and fiery spirit that served to strengthen everyone she met. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend to many. The visitation is Saturday, June 3, at 1 p.m. The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., at Cedar Bay Funeral Home, 405 New Berlin Road, Jacksonville, Florida, 32218. There will be a graveside service immediately following the funeral, at Anderson Cemetery.
