Dorothy Polly George

Dorothy “Polly” George of Jacksonville, FL, 77, went to be with the Lord on January 17, 2025.  She was born on September 27, 1947, in Jacksonville, FL to George T. Johnson, Sr. and Rose Evelyn DeLettre Johnson.

Polly was a stay-at-home mom taking care of her 3 children and husband for many years.  She sewed, cooked, and cleaned while always putting everyone else’s needs before her own.

She was a pastor’s wife and served beside her husband, Danny George at Tenth Street Baptist Church and Love in Deed Ministries.  They served the church members and community by working, teaching, preaching, cooking, and feeding the needy for many years.

After raising her children, Polly entered the workforce and became a medical billing specialist where she made many friends and later retired to enjoy time with her family, especially her grandchildren because she loved being a nanny, nana, and GG (Great Grandma). She was a loving wife, mother, nanny, nana, GG, and friend that will be dearly missed by all who knew her.  Only eternity will reveal the lives that have been touched by Polly.

She is preceded in death by her Husband of 43 years, Paul D. George “Danny”; parents, George & Rose Evelyn Johnson; sisters, Peggy Johnson and Katherine “Kitty” Johnson Slater; brothers, George T. Johnson, Jr. and Terry L. Johnson.

Polly is survived by her son, Paul D. George, Jr. “Danny” (Christie); daughters, Shelley Griffis (Terry) and Mandy Brobst (David); 3 grandchildren, Terry Griffis II “TJ”, Tiffany George, and Chloe Brobst; 2 great-grandchildren, Bryceson and Kade Griffis; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of family and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 24, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Cedar Bay Funeral Home, 405 New Berlin Rd. Jax, FL 32218.

The family will receive friends on Friday, January 24 at 10:00 AM prior to the service at Cedar Bay Funeral Home.

Interment will follow in Gethsemane Memorial Gardens, 800 Hammond Blvd. Jax, FL 32221.
