George Lauren Ogilvie, 89, of Jacksonville, passed away on Tuesday, August 27, 2024. He was born December 19, 1934 in Tampa, Florida. George was a member of North Jacksonville Baptist Church. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, and he will be dearly missed by all. Survivors include his sons Quentin Ogilvie (Sheyla) and Thurston Ogilvie; daughters Gwenevere Smith (Richard) and Priscilla Louro (Joseph); 10 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. George is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Jeanette, and his grandson, Adam.
George was in the United States Army from 1953 until 1956, serving as a paratrooper, landing craft operator, and demolition expert.
After graduating from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University with an Airframe and Powerplant Mechanic license, George worked for Eastern Airlines for nearly 30 years before retiring in 1989. George enjoyed building and flying personal airplanes, gardening, reading, fishing, and boating in his free time.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 6, 2024, at 11:00am, in the chapel of Cedar Bay Funeral Home, 405 New Berlin Road, with Rev. Chris Coram officiating. The family will receive friends at 10:00am.
