Hubert Thomas Nettles, age 82, of Jacksonville, Florida, passed away peacefully on August 14, 2025, surrounded by the love and comfort of his family.

Born on January 18, 1943, Hubert was the son of Dave and Alene Nettles. Raised with strong values and a deep appreciation for hard work, he carried those principles throughout his life. Hubert was a devoted husband to his beloved wife Joyce, with whom he shared 60 beautiful years of marriage. Together, they built a life rooted in love, laughter, and unwavering support for one another and their children.

Hubert spent over 35 years working as a millwright, a profession that suited his meticulous nature and mechanical skill. He was known for his reliability, craftsmanship, and quiet determination. Hubert took pride in his work, not for recognition, but because he believed in doing things the right way. His dedication to his job was matched only by his devotion to his family.

Though he never sought attention, Hubert’s presence was deeply felt by those around him. He was a man of few words, but his actions spoke volumes. Hubert was kind, generous, and always willing to help others — whether it was fixing something around the house, sharing vegetables from his garden, or simply offering a listening ear. His humility and sincerity left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him.

Hubert had a deep love for the outdoors. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, often rising early to spend quiet mornings in nature. Hubert was also a talented cook, known for hearty meals that brought his family together around the table. But perhaps his greatest passion was gardening. Hubert’s garden was a source of pride and joy — a vibrant, thriving space that provided fresh vegetables year-round. He tended it with care and patience, and it became a symbol of his nurturing spirit and dedication to those he loved.

Hubert was also a savvy bargain hunter, known for driving across town to save a few dollars. It wasn’t just about the deal — it was about being resourceful and thoughtful, values he lived by every day. Hubert believed in saving for a rainy day and taught his children the importance of planning ahead and living within one’s means.

Hubert’s life was a quiet testament to integrity, resilience, and compassion. He didn’t need accolades or grand gestures to make an impact. He simply lived well, loved deeply, and gave generously. Hubert’s absence will be felt profoundly, but his spirit will live on in the hearts of those who knew him.

Hubert was preceded in death by his parents, Dave and Alene Nettles; wife, Joyce; and siblings, Betty, James, and Gene. Their memories remained close to his heart throughout his life.

Hubert is survived by his children, Teresa Cribb (Robby), Tina Rhoads (Richard), and Terry Nettles (Kirsteen); six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Each of them carries forward his legacy — in their values, their stories, and the love he gave so freely.

A Celebration of Hubert’s Life will be held on Thursday, August 21, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Cedar Bay Funeral Home with Chaplain Jackie Hayes officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
