Hugh Gourley Obituary

Hugh Allen Gourley, 87, passed away on Monday, November 7, 2022. He was born in Dover, Delaware on June 12, 1935 to the late Gilbert Barnet and Edith May (Lancaster) Gourley. He graduated from Caesar Rodney High School. He enlisted in the US Navy in 1954-1958 honorable veteran during the Vietnam War, last duty station in Naples, Italy. Hugh was a retired Machinist of Liddy’s Machine Shop in Jacksonville, Fl. He was a dedicated hard worker that retired to his farm in Thomson, Georgia. Hugh spent many of his farm days caring for his animals, working in his shop on his many tractors and gardening. Hugh was known by many as a speaker of God’s word. He frequently led many to The Lord. In Jacksonville, Florida, he was very involved with Oceanway Assembly of God. In Thomson, Ga he was very involved in church and speaking within the Prison Ministry to lead others to the Lord.

 He is predeceased by his parents; son, Dennis Allen Gourley; daughter, Patricia Gourley; brothers, Samuel Edward Gourley, Gilbert Ronald Gourley, John McTaggart Gourley; sisters, Dorris June Nance, Jean G Walters, Phillis Ann Simpson; and his soulmate, Mary Ketus Gourley.

He is survived by his daughter in law, Teresa Mixon Gourley; 2 step children, Ketus Keefer and David A. Johnson; 4 grandchildren, Sandra Lynn McGrew (Jason), Christina DeGrassi (Robert), Gene Hernandez, II, and Rebecca Matulich (Curt); 9 great-grandchildren, Abigail Elizabeth Fiske, Nathan Edward McGrew, Aiden DeGrassi, Ryder DeGrassi, Aria DeGrassi, Isabella Hernandez, Peyton Matulich, Ethan Matulich, and Reese Matulich; his brother, Jospeh Gourley, Sr.(Marilyn); a host of nieces and nephews as well as relatives and friends.

Graveside services will be held on Sunday, November 13, 2022 at 2:00 PM at Deen Cemetery in Baxley, Georgia with the Pastor Marcus Taylor officiating. The family wishes to thank the staff of Fountain’s at Mill Cove, Vitas Hospice for the care and concern they gave Hugh and extended to the family. The family also wishes to thank Mr. and Mrs. Marc Mobley for their assistance at the farm the past several months
