Ida Rebecca Thornton

Ida Rebecca “Becky” Thornton, 66, passed away on Thursday, August 27, 2020 in Jacksonville, Florida. She is now in the presence of our Heavenly Father and reunited with her parents and sister. Becky was born on August 20, 1954 in Cordele, Georgia to the late Isma McGahee and Hubert Allen. Becky was employed at Dunn’s Creek Baptist Church Daycare for 30 years. She cared for hundreds of children at the daycare as well as in Children’s Church and Sunday school.

She is preceded in death by her parents and sister, Valerie. Survivors include 2 sons, Jonathan Norris Thornton Jr. (Dawn)and James Nelson Thornton (Julie); 4 grandchildren, Ryan Tanner, Bryce Thornton, Rylee Thornton and Riverlynn Thornton and brother Larry Allen.

Her memorial services will be held Saturday, September 5, 2020 at 11:00 am in the chapel at Cedar Bay Funeral Home at 405 New Berlin Road, Jacksonville, Florida.  The family will receive friends Saturday at 10:00 am, one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cedar Bay Funeral Home to help cover the cost of laying her to rest.
