It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of James (Jay) A. Glaze Jr., aged 62, of Jacksonville, Florida. Jay passed away on February 15, 2024, surrounded by his loving family after a brief illness.
Jay graduated from Orange Park High School in 1980 and embarked on a fulfilling career. Initially, he worked as a tractor-trailer driver for Benton Brothers and Coca-Cola before joining Estes Express Lines in December of 1997. Throughout his tenure, he held various roles, including local pickup and delivery driver, Assistant Manager, and Dispatcher Supervisor.
Jay found immense joy in outdoor activities, particularly camping and fishing with his family at Welaka Lodge & Resort and Ginnie Springs. He cherished his childhood and adult vacations spent at his grandparents' house on Clark Hill Lake in South Carolina, where his ashes will be laid to rest. Additionally, Jay was an avid football and NASCAR enthusiast, with a lifelong allegiance to the FSU Seminoles.
He is survived by his children, Patrick Glaze and Sara Jones (Ethan); grandchildren, Ava and Brody; parents, James Sr. and Dianne Glaze; sister, Holly Barrale (Thomas); and three nieces.
A celebration of Jay's life will take place on March 9th at Cedar Bay Funeral Home, located at 405 New Berlin Road, Jacksonville, FL 32218. Family and friends are welcome to gather at 10 a.m., with services commencing at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests attendees to wear their favorite FSU Seminoles attire and share fond memories of Jay's life.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated doctors and nurses at Shands Hospital in Gainesville for their exceptional care and support during Jay's illness.
