Obituary

James “Jim” Lyle King, aged 73, peacefully passed away on May 16th, 2024, following his courageous battle with cancer.

A celebration of Jim’s life will be held on Sunday, May 26th, 2024, at 2 pm, at Cedar Bay Funeral Home. The family will be available to greet friends starting from 1 pm.

Jim was born on May 11th, 1951, in Sewickley, Pennsylvania, to the late John James and Freida Marie (Lyle) King.

In his youth, Jim was actively involved in the Boy Scouts and harbored a deep affection for cowboys. He also found joy in playing baseball during middle school and drumming in the high school marching band. He graduated from Moon High School in 1970. Following graduation, he pursued his interests by breeding beagles and working at the local steel mill until its closure in the early 1980s. A devoted Pittsburgh sports fan and a loyal patriot. Jim’s love for his country was unwavering.

Relocating to Florida marked a new chapter for Jim, where he began working at St Johns River Power Plant in 1983 as a mechanic. He played an integral role in the plant’s orginal construction, which commenced operations in 1984. Throughout his life, Jim found fulfillment in coaching youth sports and nurturing his passion for firearms, hunting and cowboy culture. He became skilled in reloading ammunition and forged enduring friendships at a hunting club.

Jim retired from SJRPP in 2006, embracing a life filled with family and hobbies. His marriage to Christine, fondly known as Chris, led to shared pursuits in cowboy action shooting as members of the Single Action Shooting Society (S.A.S.S). In their time together, Jim attempted many new southern foods with the exception of grits, a boundary Jim refused to cross.

Jim is survived by his beloved wife Christine and their blended family, including Timothy King, Eric (Heather) King, Stephen (Inez) DuBose, Woodus D DuBose, Cynthia (Ronald) Beck, Jason (Angela) DuBose, Mathew Davis, Wesley Davis, Christopher (Tiffany) Davis, along with numerous cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Freida King, his sister Patricia “Patty” Krueger, and his late wife and mother of his two children, Mary King.
