Jess Thomas Wakefield

Jess Thomas Wakefield, 87, of Jacksonville, Florida went to be with our Lord in the early hours of Saturday, June 25, 2022 after a lengthy battle with congestive heart failure. Tom was born on April 9, 1935 in Fort Worth, Texas and ended up calling many states his home as he grew and finally settled in Los Angeles where he met the love of his life, Donna Wakefield. They remained in California until 1981 and drove to Jacksonville, Florida where he resided for the rest of his life. Tom worked at Union Carbide which then became Rhone-Poulenc, until retirement. After retirement, he decided he wasn’t ready to stop and began working at Pine Lakes Golf Course maintaining the greens. In his free time, Tom loved to golf, fish, watch baseball and football and bake for the family or church events. He was a man capable
of many things. Whether it was fixing cars, growing a garden or making brownies and bread, he had it covered. He was a man that never shied away from a hard day’s work and was always quick to post pictures of his grandkids and offer replies on Facebook, whether you liked it or not! One of the most rewarding things in his life was his grandchildren. Tom would never miss an event in which his 6 grandchildren participated. If they were participating, he was there to always cheer them on. It brought him the most joy. 

He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert E. & Doris F. Wakefield and sister, Dorothy Bizzell. Survivors include his wife, Donna Wakefield; sons, Gary (Cheryl) and David (Serena); 6 grandchildren, Brian (Aja), Victoria, Sebastian, Dawson, Olivia and Skylar and 2 great-grandchildren, Mila and Luna. The world has lost a wonderful man but Heaven has gained him. He’s whole again and is reunited with his “Pop” as well as his friends. They are fishing, playing golf and sipping a cold beverage on the 19th hole.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 6, 2022 at 11:00 am at Cedar Bay Chapel, 405 New Berlin Rd in Jacksonville with Pastor Bill Reister and Pastor Michael Popp officiating.
