Joan Sheets Obituary

Joanie Sheets departed this life on May 13, 2021, surrounded by family and in the hearts and prayers of all her family and friends. She was born in southern Ohio, the youngest of 9 children, and was reared on the family farm. She graduated high school at Felicity-Franklin, after which she obtained a professional business degree and worked as a legal secretary in Cincinnati OH and Austin TX. She moved to Fernandina Beach FL in 1978. She was a long-time employee of Rayonier and later of Amelia Island Management Company, and she developed lifelong friendships with co-workers. She married the love of her life, Richard W Sheets, Captain, on June 26, 1988, and together they enjoyed outdoor life, fishing for bass, caring for her beloved cats, avidly rooting for the Jacksonville Jaguars, and being with family and friends. Joanie suffered the devastating loss of her husband in May 2006. She then filled her life with her beloved cats, her work, her friends, time with her mother, siblings, and extended family, and developing a closer relationship with her stepdaughters though their shared love of the Jags. She battled cancer in 2014-15 and defeated it, with the support of her family and friends, only to have it return in 2021. She has now returned to the Lord, and is again with Richard, and all her family who have gone before her. She is preceded in death by her husband Richard, her parents Alfred and Frances Weber, her sister and brother-in-law, Peggy and Jerry St.Clair, her nephew Denny Osborne, her niece Beth McAllister, and her sister-in-law Bonnie McGuire. She leaves to mourn her death her remaining siblings, Regina (Joe) Cesario, Loretta (Tom) Osborne, Marilyn (Paul) Buemi, Rosemary (Bill) Evans, Ginny (Larry) Holton, Sharon (Bob) Mills, and John (Cindy) Weber, her sisters-in-law Peggy Palmer, Norma Mason and Abby Harris, and her stepdaughters Mari Mallot and Lissa Treadwell and their families, as well as 29 nieces and nephews and many great-nieces and great-nephews. She also leaves behind many beloved cousins, including Teresa Ahrenholz and Rick Wilkerson, and her close friends. Joanie’s passing has left a huge hole in our hearts but we are comforted knowing she is at peace, resting in the palm of His hand. Funeral arrangements include Visitation / Gathering of family and friends at the Cedar Bay Funeral Home, 405 New Berlin Road, Jacksonville on June 3, from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., funeral Mass on June 4, at 12:30 p.m. at St Patrick Catholic Church, 601 Airport Center Road, Jacksonville, followed at 2:30 p.m. with the Committal and Interment service at the National Cemetery, 4083 Lannie Road, Jacks
