Joseph John Simone, age 88, of Jacksonville, Florida, passed away on Wednesday, November 9th, 2022. He was born on April 27th, 1934, in the Bronx, New York, New York to the late Joseph Walter Simone and Bertha D’Angelo Simone. He was a fun, loving, giving person and he loved his family, friends, and his country dearly. Nothing made him prouder than to watch that flag wave in the wind in front of his RV every day. In his early years, he served in the Navy, where he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal. After leaving the Navy, he married his first wife, Mary “Maura” Grant. They moved to New Jersey and had two daughters, Deborah, and Donna. Joe participated in the Volunteer Fire Rescue in New Jersey. He married his second wife, Marjorie Abrahamsen in Reno, Nevada. He owned an HVAC company, was a member of the Gold Wing Road Riders and taught motorcycle safety classes. After moving to Virginia, he participated in the Volunteer Fire Department and Auxiliary Police there. He loved traveling in his RV and before that on his motorcycle, crossing the United States several times. He was a loving, giving person and would help anyone.
Joseph was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary “Maura” Grant as well as his second wife, Marjorie Abrahamsen. Survivors include his daughters, Deborah (Tom) Aspinwall and Donna (Louis) Lemenze; his brother, Richard (Sunny) Simone; grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Joseph’s family and friends will gather at the Jacksonville National Cemetery at 4083 Lannie Road, Jacksonville, FL, 32218 on Friday, December 16th, 2022, at 1pm, please arrive by 12:45. Arrangements entrusted to the care of Cedar Bay Funeral Home, 405 New Berlin Rd., Jacksonville, Florida.
