Obituary

John William Walls, age 83, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 27, 2024, at Community Hospice Center in Fernandina Beach, FL. He was born November 22, 1940, in Philadelphia, PA to John W. Walls and Irene (Murdoc) Walls. He married Margaret (Peggy) Cook on October 19, 1985, in Charles Town, West Virginia.
He retired as a Chief Petty Officer after serving twenty-two years in the United States Navy. He served on a variety of ships, the last one being the USS America. He also served in numerous locations around the world, including Guam and Greece to name a few.
Upon his retirement from the US Navy, he continued contributing to the defense of our country. He worked for fifteen years as a military defense contractor helping to support US Naval Fleet operations.
After working long years in support of our nation he and Peggy moved to Key West, Florida, and lived there for twenty years, enjoying the carefree island lifestyle. Although the island lifestyle was still appealing, he and Peggy realized that a slower pace of life was needed, so they moved from Key West and found their forever home in Jacksonville, Florida.
He is survived by his wife, Peggy (Cook) Walls, and three daughters, Barbara Jo (Walls) Murphy, Cindy Lee (Walls) White, and Jonny Mae Walls. He is also survived by his brother, Robert Walls, and his family. The family and friends whose lives John touched are encouraged to donate to the Wounded Warrior Project. The family is holding a small celebration of his life at their home. Interment with military honors will be held on Tuesday, August 6, 2024, at 9:30 am in the Jacksonville National Cemetery.
