Johnny Gerald Robbins (1944-2024)
Johnny Robbins passed peacefully in his loving wife’s arms on Monday, September 30th at Shands UF North after a lengthy battle with Leukemia. He was born May 9th, 1944, in Valdese, North Carolina to his parents, Jessie and Mary Robbins. He is preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, and one brother. Following his high school graduation, he enlisted in the United States Navy as an EOD tech officer. He bravely fought in the Vietnam War. He received numerous awards for his outstanding service over 26 years and retired as a lieutenant. During his naval career, he met his first love, Sarah (deceased). They married shortly after and she birthed their twin sons, Johnny and Dalon (Denise) Robbins. Over the next several years, he worked as the head of maintenance at St. Marks Episcopal School and Church. He was a devoted Christian with a heavy commitment to his church, West Jacksonville Primitive Baptist where he served as an ordained deacon. During this time, he met and married his final love, Jessie Robbins, and loved her sons Curtis (Jeannie) Harry (Tiffany) as his own. These two had the opportunity to spend their retirement years together, spending time outdoors, traveling, and visiting loved ones. He is survived by his wife, Jessie, and his sons, Johnny and Dalon (Denise). He will forever be remembered as “Pappy” to his numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life for Retired United States Navy Lieutenant Robbins will be held on Thursday October 3rd ,2024 at 11am In the Chapel of Cedar Bay Funeral Home
