Joyce Lippard McKendree

 Joyce Lippard McKendree, Born in Kanappolis, North Carolina to C. L. (Pete) & Katherine Brown Lippard on July 15, 1939. Her family moved to Jacksonville, Fla. In 1949. She graduated from Jackson High School in 1957 and went to work for Southern Bell in 1958. She met the love of her life, Gene McKendree of Yulee, at a church revival when she was 12 years old and she says she loved him then. They were married on June 21, 1958 and they lived in Yulee. She worked at Southern Bell from 1957-1991 (34 yrs). Was President of FOPA for 4 yrs, treasurer of Yulee Historical Society for 5 yrs. She was a member of First Coast Christian Center, and was active in the church until poor health prevented her from attending. She enjoyed making cakes for special occasions in her earlier years. Flowers made her smile, and she had a lot of them! She was definitely the green thumb of her family. Her hobbies were whatever Gene’s hobbies were. They did everything together, from racing cars on Fernandina Beach, go-carts in Hilliard and beach buggies at the jetties, to hunting, she could do it all. Although they enjoyed multiple hobbies together, hunting was their overall passion. They were members of Gifford hunting club for 33 years and she always made sure to keep the camp members stocked up with cakes and desserts. Her and Gene loved trips to the mountains, stopping at every roadside stream, her favorite destination being Cade’s Cove. She was kindhearted, thoughtful and always thinking of her family and friends. She loved to send cards for any special occasion, or just to say “I’m thinking of you!” She suffered with pain and health issues for many years but still had a pleasant demeanor and her faith in the Lord never wavered. She set a wonderful example for her family and has left a lasting legacy. She will be greatly missed. She is preceded in death by her parents, C.L (Pete) & Katherine Lippard, her sister Patricia Thornley and nephew Scott Thornley. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Eugene Mckendree, sister, Kathy Adams, daughter, Teri (Phil) Davis, granddaughters Sabrina (Jody) Thrift, Cheyenne (Corey) Carroll, great-grandchildren, Tucker & Tara Thrift, Hayden & Carter Carroll, a nephew Mike(Lisa) Thornley and great nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Monday March 7 , 2022 at 12pm in the First Coast Christian Center of Jacksonville, With Pastor Perry Fruscella officiating. Interment will follow in Hughes Cemetery Yulee, Florida. The family will receive friends on Monday at the church starting at 11am.
