Kimberly Ann Scalf

Kimberly Ann Scalf (Yarborough), affectionately known as “Kim” or “Gannie,” passed away on January 6, 2025, at the age of 64. Born on October 8, 1960, in Jacksonville, FL, Kim was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. After the birth of her first grandchild, Reeves, “Gannie” became the cherished name by which her family and loved ones referred to her.

Kim was born to Dolly and Sidney Yarborough as one of six siblings. She spent her childhood in the San Souci area of Jacksonville, FL, and attended Englewood High School, where she met the love of her life, Cecil Dale Scalf. The two were married on December 21, 1976, and shared 37 wonderful years together until his tragic passing in 2014.

Kim is survived by her daughters, Sherry Davis (Richard Davis) and Pennie Scalf (Jeff Slouf); her grandchildren, Reeves Davis, Kirstin Davis, Jillian Street, and Jenna Street; her siblings, Lou Johnson and Kenny Yarborough; and numerous other family members and friends. She is preceded in death by her husband, Cecil “Dale”; her siblings, Betty Lee, Jimmy Yarborough, and Suzanna Gross; and her parents, Dolly and Sidney Yarborough.

Kim’s professional life was a testament to her determination and resilience. During the late 1980s, she worked alongside her husband as an electrician, a rarity for women at the time. Together, they built a successful career, working on commercial and residential projects across Florida and beyond. In the late 1990s, they founded Scalf Electric, Inc., which they operated until Cecil’s passing.

A devoted grandmother, Kim, was deeply involved in Reeves’ and Kirstin’s lives, always cheering them on in their activities and ensuring Christmases were magical with carloads of presents. Her generosity extended beyond her immediate family; as someone who grew up in poverty, she had a special place in her heart for children and made it her mission to ensure they felt loved and celebrated, especially during the holidays. Kim also found joy in creating both artificial and real flower arrangements, which she often made for the funerals of family and friends, showcasing her deep care for others during their times of loss.

Kim’s passions included her unwavering support for the Florida Gators, Coca-Cola memorabilia, and her love for spirited debates about politics, particularly her admiration for Donald J. Trump. She worked tirelessly in 2016 as part of the RNC’s voter outreach efforts and attended rallies with pride.

Tiny but mighty, Kim had a compassionate and giving heart, an unshakable faith in Jesus, and a deep and unwavering protectiveness for her family. Her big hair and even bigger personality left a lasting impression on all who knew her.

Services will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2025, at Cedar Bay Funeral Home, 405 New Berlin Rd, Jacksonville, FL 32218, officiated by David Hill.

Visitation: 9:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m.

Service: 10:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.

Procession to Cemetery: Greenlawn Cemetery, 4300 Beach Blvd

Lunch to follow: Faith Family Fellowship 2503 Tebassa Road Jacksonville FL, 32216

In honor of Kim’s vibrant personality, formal funeral attire is not required. Guests are invited to wear one of her favorite things: her favorite color pink, her beloved Florida Gators’ orange and blue, or Trump attire/American flag colors (red, white, and blue) to show her pride for her favorite president.

If you plan to attend the procession to the cemetery, the family has requested that, if you have a Trump flag, please consider flying it during Gannie’s last ride.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude for the prayers, love, and support during this difficult time. Kim’s legacy of love, generosity, and resilience will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. Thank you for celebrating her life with us.
