Marian Burnett Adams

Marian Burnett Adams, 90, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 3, 2025, at St. Vincent's Hospital after a short illness. She had been a resident of Jacksonville, Florida for many years. Most recently she was a resident of St. Catherine Laboure Manor, now named Riverside Post Acute. 

Born on July 21,1934, in Sanderson, Florida, to Eunice Marian Dobson and Noah Jefferson Burnett. Marian spent her early years there and excelled both academically and as a basketball player for the Sanderson High School Girls team. After graduating, she continued her passion for the sport by playing for the Pepsi-Cola National Basketball team, which went on to win the state championship. It was during one of these games that she met her future husband, Laurie James Adams. The two were married on May 14, 1955, and shared 60 wonderful years together.

Marian and Laurie raised four children: Jane (Rick) Powell, Mark (Tammy) Adams, Donna (Hans) Trumble-Vige, and Laurie James Adams Jr., along with a "bonus son," Jeff Trumble. Her family grew to include 12 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and numerous cherished pets she lovingly referred to as her "fur grandchildren."

A devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Marian served in many capacities over the years within Relief Society, Primary, and Sunday School. She retired from Sears Distribution Center/Imeson in 1995 and enjoyed gardening in her beautiful flower beds, visiting the Smoky Mountains, shopping, and dining out. Above all else, she treasured her family and many friends who brought her immense joy throughout her life.

Marian was predeceased by her husband Laurie; her parents; her brothers George Wilbur, Earl, and John Paul; and her sister Marjorie Fish. She is survived by her sister-in-law Paula Margain Burnett; special niece Linda Fish Anderson; nephew Wayne Fish; and numerous other nieces, nephews, cousins, and loved ones. 

We would like to thank the doctors, nurses, physical therapist, and many others at RPA who provided wonderful care and friendship to our mother during her time there. Especially Anna, Ashley, Cardennia and Elizabeth.

In accordance with Marian’s wishes, no service will be held. She will be laid to rest at Cedar Creek Cemetery in Sanderson, Florida, alongside her husband and family members.

She was a truly wonderful Mother and Grandmother. Please visit and call your loved ones while they are here. It truly matters.
