Mendel Howard Osteen (Mickey), aged 87, passed away on September 26, 2024, in Jacksonville, Florida surrounded by family. Born on April 28, 1937, Mickey dedicated 43 years of his career to Commercial Car Carriers, a division of Ryder Trucklines, showcasing his commitment and hard work.
Mickey was a cherished member of Grace Baptist Church for over 50 years, where he served diligently as a Sunday School Superintendent. His love for his church was immeasurable. His faith and dedication to his community were evident in his service and involvement.
Known for his quiet demeanor and excellent sense of humor, Mickey enjoyed a life filled with hobbies that connected him to nature and his family. He was passionate about fishing, farming, and spending weekends at his lake house at Lake Jewel located in Interlachen, Florida. His love for his horse Misty, tractors, and mowing the lawn were matched by his joy in solving word search puzzles. Mickey cherished singing "You Are My Sunshine" to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, creating lasting memories during evenings spent outside in his lawn chair.
Mickey is survived by his loving wife of sixty-nine (69) years, Geneva Alice Osteen, and their children: Mitzi (Wade) Brown, Deanna (Terry) Garnett, and twins Robert (Kim) and Richard (Melanie) Osteen. His legacy continues through his grandchildren: Lee (Laura) Brown, Crystal (Randy) Johnson, Courtney (Joe) Brown, Shayne (Danielle) Osteen, Tanner (Courtney) Garnett, Aaron Osteen, and Lindsey Osteen, as well as his great-grandchildren: Jakob Brown, Jacob Brown, Brylee Brown, Madison Brown, Baxlee Brown, Kyli Garnett, Gunnar Staier, TJ Garnett, Ella Johnson, Hayley Garnett, Carter Garnett, and Lainey Osteen and his brother Phillip (Dianne) Osteen, sister-in-law Kathleen Carter, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard Lavan Osteen and Ethel Ophelia Lamb Osteen, and his brother, Quinton Lavan and his wife Betty Osteen.
A service to honor and celebrate Mickey's life will be held on October 1, 2024, at 1:00pm in the Chapel of Cedar Bay Funeral Home at 405 New Berlin road, Jacksonville, Florida, 32218. The family will receive friends on Tuesday October 1 at 12:00pm Internment will be at Riverside Memorial Gardens off of Normandy Boulevard. Mickey's life was marked by his devotion to his family, his career, and his community, leaving a lasting impact on all who knew him.
