In Loving Memory of Monserrate "Monsi" Rodriguez Perez August 13, 1944 - April 18, 2025 Daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother- a woman of strength, warmth, and unwavering love. Monserrate Rodriguez Perez, affectionately known as Monsi, passed away peacefully on April 18, 2025- Good Friday. A day of reflection and grace, fitting for a woman whose life was filled with both. Born in Ponce, Puerto Rico, Monsi was the sixth of seven children of Andres Rodriguez Mercado and Candida Rosa Perez. It was there that she was raised and began the journey that would define her legacy. Monsi later moved to Brooklyn, New York, where she welcomed her first child, Jose Rodriguez, on August 30, 1973. She would go on to meet and marry the love of her life, the late Humberto Cortes Maldonado. Together, they had their daughter Jacqueline Cortes Rodriguez on April 26, 1980. After returning to Puerto Rico, Monsi became a proud restaurant owner, known for pouring her love into the food she served. Later in life, as a devoted homemaker, she continued to express her care and devotion through her cooking and through the quiet strength with which she lived each day. A woman of deep faith and a heart open to all, Monsi loved and was deeply loved in return. Her legacy is carried on by her beloved children, Jose and Jacqueline, her grandchildren, Nefshali, Rashelle, and Marti, and her cherished siblings, Jose, Theresa, and Myrna.
May her heart now rest in a place where illness does not exist- only peace, love, and the everlasting embrace of the God she held so dearly.
