Nellie Louise Mathews, lovingly known as "Sis," passed away peacefully on 03/21/2025 in Jacksonville, Florida, at the age of 83. Born in Jacksonville to the late John Carlton and Nellie (Finch) Swearingen, she graduated from Andrew Jackson High School. She spent her life dedicated to friends, family, and serving others, leaving behind a legacy of warmth and generosity.

She was the devoted wife of Hubert "Matt" Mathews, who preceded her in death in 2013. She was also preceded in death by her four brothers and two sisters. She is survived by numerous close and extended family members, as well as many dear friends who will forever hold her memory close.

A Visitation will be held on Monday, March 24, 2025, from 5-7 pm in the Chapel of Cedar Bay Funeral Home, 405 New Berlin Rd, Jacksonville FL, 32218

 She will be laid to rest at Jacksonville National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Community Hospice of Jacksonville, reflecting Nellie's generous spirit and commitment to helping others.
