Robert Eugene May, age 90, passed away Friday, April 14, 2023, after an extended
illness. He is survived by his wife of nearly 35 years, Charlotte Padgett May, his two
sons, John (Kim) May and Michael (Bonnie) McDonald, a daughter, Angela (Steve)
Shepherd, nine grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by
his parents, and his son Kenneth and two brothers and a sister. Bob was born on
August 22, 1932, in Pike County, Kentucky. At the age of 17 he joined the US Army and
served in Korea where he was awarded a Purple Heart. After finishing three and ½
years in the army, he rejoined the service and became a US Marine. Bob worked with
Sears Logistics where he retired after 32 years of service. Bob was a Christian having
been saved and baptized in 1986 and later rededicating his life to the Lord Jesus Christ.
Bob was described as the “kindest man I ever knew”. He was quiet, kind, honest, and
easy-going. He loved bluegrass music, gardening, and traveling to the North Georgia
and Tennessee mountains, especially Cades Cove. Memorial services with Military Honors
will be held at 2 PM, using Lane 1 on Monday, May 8, 2023, at the Jacksonville National Cemetery
