Ronald “Ron” Smith passed away on February 8, 2022, at the age of 72, in his hometown of Jacksonville, Florida. His battle with serious medical issues over the past year showed his courage in facing life challenges with bravery and determination. Despite those challenges, he stayed strong until the end. Ron retired in 2019 from his job as an Engineer. During his 40 plus year career span, he helped build bridges throughout the United States. Ron was an avid card player, guitar picker, wood worker, jack of all trades, and cowboy at heart. He did enjoy, occasionally, drinking a Busch and fishing. Ron met his wife, Jackie, while he was working with a road crew in Canton, Missouri. They married in 1975 and soon started building their family. Ron was the proud father of Alisha (Matthew) of St. Louis, Missouri, Whistina (Jason) of Jacksonville, Florida, and T.J. (Megan) of Jacksonville, Florida. Ron also has 6 grandchildren he enjoyed spending time with: Morgan, Ashton, Alyssa, Noah, Grace, and Wyatt. He is also survived by 3 brothers, Joe, Mark, Jamie and 1 sister, Becky. A visitation for Ron will be held at Cedar Bay Funeral Home, February 12th, 10 A.M. -12 P.M. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the family.
