Allen – Samuel Allen III
It is with great sadness that the family of Samuel Allen III announces his passing on July 6, 2025, at the age of 85.
Sam is survived by his wife, Jan Henninger Allen; his daughter, Kelly Greco; and his granddaughters, Jordan Greco and Kendall Greco.
Sam was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on April 7, 1940, to Samuel Allen Jr. and Margaret Leibau Allen. He graduated from East Tennessee State University and then served as a Captain in the United States Army, where he earned his Airborne jump wings, served two tours in Vietnam, and was awarded the Bronze Star.
He went on to be a much-loved industrial arts teacher at Arlington Jr. High School in Jacksonville, Florida, where he was the football, basketball, and girls track and field coach until his retirement.
Sam was involved in his church for many decades, where he served as deacon, and was privileged to baptize both of his granddaughters in the faith.
The above tribute was prepared by Sam’s loving family.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Monday, July 14, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Faithbridge Church, 13720 McCormick Road, Jacksonville, Florida, 32225.
