Stephen (Steve) Michael Duke, 82, of Jacksonville, Florida, passed away September 20, 2021. He was a long term resident at Life Care Center of Jacksonville where he passed peacefully under the care of Community Hospice.
Steve spent his early childhood in Union Town, PA where he participated in the cub scouts before relocating to Jacksonville FL his senior year where he met his high school sweetheart and future wife on the school bus. He graduated from Andrew Jackson High School in 1957, joined the U. S. Navy specializing in marine electronics in Chicago, served three years in the Reserves, attended the Luther Rice Seminary GI bill. Steve made his profession of faith at Dunn Creek Baptist Church as a teenager, served as a deacon at Cedar Bay Baptist Church, a deacon and sunday school teacher at North Jax Baptist Church.
Steve is survived by his loving spouse of 60 years, Shirley Roberts Duke, his three children Kathy Davis Heykens (Charles Davis), Cindy Duke and Lisa Duke. He had six grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren. Steve is predeceased by his parents Paul Frances Duke and Mary Kathryn Duke, his sister Mary Ann Salzer and his granddaughter Amy Michelle Sea.
His family will always remember Steve as kind, humorous and inspirational. He was and always will be one of a kind.
The viewing will be held at Cedar Bay Funeral Home Monday, September 27 from 5:00-7:00pm. Steve Leggett will officiate a memorial at the Jacksonville National Cemetery on Tuesday, September 28 at 1:30pm, family and friends are encouraged to meet at Cedar Bay Funeral Home at 12:30 to participate in the procession.
