Vernice Lankford

Vernice Lankford, 89 years old of Callahan, FL, passed away peacefully on March 7, 2025. Born in Atkinson County, GA, he moved to Jacksonville as a young child and lived there until relocating to Callahan 30 years ago. He was able to spend his final days at the home he loved, being cared for by his family. It brings us comfort to know that he is reunited with his wife Mary Jane, who passed in 2017. They met as teenagers and had a loving marriage that lasted 62 years. Vern was a devoted family man and the memories we share are many and priceless. He spent countless hours coaching Little League and attending sporting events and dance recitals of his kids and grandkids. Always demonstrating a strong work ethic, his family learned the value of hard work through his own example. He also loved his church family at Highlands Baptist Church and willingly gave much of his time, sharing his carpentry skills when needed.

He leaves behind his daughter Renee (Dan), son Steve (Denise), brother and sister-in-law Larry and Dale Lankford, grandchildren Laura, Steven (Julianne), Ashley (Kevin), and Leslie (Neil). Great grands Sawyer, Mason and Kasidee. Special nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his wife, he is also predeceased by daughter-in-law Pam and brother Johnny.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, March 21st, 2025, at 11 am in the chapel of Cedar Bay Funeral Home, 405 New Berlin Road, Jacksonville, FL, 32218. 

The family will receive friends at the funeral home 1 hour prior to the service.
