Wanda Newman Obituary

Wanda Harris Newman was born December 10, 1946 in Jacksonville, Florida to Woodrow M. Harris and Hazel Elizabeth(Lynch) Harris. God sent for her at 9:38 am on March 9th, 2024. Wanda was Baptized at an early age at Springfield Baptist Church and later joined Dunns Creek Baptist Church where she has remained a member for over 40 years. She graduated from Andrew Jackson High School in 1964. After graduating she went to work at the office of the Clerk of the Circuit Court of Duval County. This is where she met and got to know Bob and his 5-year-old daughter Lynn. She and Bob were married Oct 29, 1968, and were blessed with 2 sons Rob Jr. and Jeff to go with their daughter Lynn. Wanda later worked for Dan Jones Realty Corp as secretary after taking 12 years off from the workforce to raise children. Her love for the Lord and desire to help others led her into the mission field at first through her church and later with World Harvest Mission. She visited hard-to-reach folks in places like Haiti, Ecuador, and the jungles of Guyana to take the Gospel of Jesus, medicines, and other supplies. In 2009 her stroke and other health problems slowed her down and turned her attention to writing. She has 2 books that have been published and was working on a third one till God called for her. Wanda loved swimming, travel, and her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren & the smokey mountains, But most of all she loved her God and Savior Jesus, and next to that her family. She is survived by her Husband of 55 years Robert (Bob) Newman Sr., Daughter Lynn Newman Wilson (husband Michael), Son Robert(Rob)Newman Jr. (wife Kelly), Son Jeff Harris Newman (wife Melissa). Grandchildren: Jeremy S. McFalls (wife April), Jared J. McFalls (wife Heather), Seth A. Newman, Ally Newman, Logan Newman, Laursen Newman. Great grandchildren: Lexus McFalls (husband Andrew), Emma McFalls, Owen McFalls, Bella McFalls. Wanda’s sisters: Faye Black (husband Winston), Marsha Hughes (husband Larry), Honorary Daughter Ruth Jernigan (husband Bruce) Honorary grandchildren Sam Jernigan and Ann Jernigan, Honorary sister and brother-in-law Claudia and Wayne Spencer. Also other numerous nieces and nephews and friends. Our thanks and gratitude go out to the many caregivers who took care of and treated her and our family with dignity and respect. A memorial service will be held Thursday, March 14th at 12:30 pm at Dunn’s Creek Baptist Church 1425 Starratt Road in Jacksonville, Florida 32218.
