William Theodore Tollman

Tollman - William "Bill" Tollman passed away peacefully in the early morning of July 1, 2026, at the age of 91.

Born on October 16, 1934, in Lakewood, New Jersey, Bill was the cherished son of Theodore William and Gertrude Etta Long Tollman. He was deeply proud of his family, particularly his beloved sister Mary Ann and niece Alexis.

An athletic team player, Bill served as quarterback of Tom's River Regional Schools' undefeated football team—8 wins, zero losses—a distinction honored with induction into the Athletic Hall of Fame. He carried that same team spirit to Rutgers University, where he continued playing football before beginning a remarkable 25-year Air Force career as a decorated officer and radar navigator.

As a Lt. Colonel, Bill distinguished himself as a top-rated B-52 navigator, leading his squadron in bombing competitions and serving with distinction in Vietnam. His military expertise opened doors to assignments with the Defense Logistics Agency and major aerospace contractors, allowing him to work on projects including the Northrop B-2 Spirit. Bill pursued a master's degree from USC and spent his post-military years in purposeful pursuits—running his own business, creating Vietnam-era documentaries, and serving his communities. His adventurous spirit took him across the country, from Texas to California to Florida.

Bill is survived by his sister, Mary Ann; his niece, Alexis; his cousin, Chip; his two daughters, Laurel and Katherine; his three grandchildren, Jules, Liam and Revere; and deep friendships forged over decades, in particular his more than 64 year friendship with Bobby O Welch, Lt. Col. (Ret) PhD and Ann Welch, their children and grandchildren. Dad, Bopie, Bill, we will take time to remember you and grieve your passing. You led a long and productive life and you lived your life on your terms doing almost exactly as you wanted.

A Graveside Service for Bill will be held on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, at 11:30 AM at Jacksonville National Cemetery where military honors will be rendered with Bro. Jim Cox officiating.
