Winona Woodward Obituary

Winona Elnora Wilson Woodward, 90, passed away Monday, August 22, 2022. She was born August 18, 1932, in Jacksonville, FL to the late Charles Wilson and Julia King Wilson. Winona or as many knew her “Mam-ma”, lived all her life in Jacksonville, growing up in Panama Park as a child, and raised by her mother whom she adored dearly. She attended Andrew Jackson High School where she became friends with her “cronies” as she affectionately called them, Renelda, Jerri, and Doris. The ladies carried on lifelong friendships that began in Panama Park hanging out at the drive-in and going to the beach. In 1950, she married the love of her life in a secret wedding in Folkston, GA. James and Winona snuck off to wed and later that evening she went home and slept in the bed with her mother. They remained boyfriend and girlfriend for 66 years until James went to be with the Lord in 2016. They shared and loved on 4 children: Bonnie Webb (Billy), Donna Dunning (Randy), Tammie Davis (Richard), and James “Jimmy” Jr. They proudly raised their kids in Arlington and later moved to the Northside where they called home. Winona attended Northside Assembly of God for many years where she taught VBS and worked in the food pantry. Later she attended Oceanway Assembly of God and was a true lover of the Lord. She was a homemaker, a baby rocker, a gardener, an ambulance chaser (she loved her police scanner), an avid fisher, a jitter bug dancer, a gambler, a lure maker, a counselor, and a wound healer. She loved her family and her community, and everyone knew Mam-ma. She worked several years at the front desk at Flamingo Lake RV Resort where she made many friends from all over the country. Her grandchildren say she was home. They often called her house the Gate Lane Rehab where they could go and stay a few minutes or a few months. She ensured everyone felt special and loved. She always provided a purse full of butterscotch and peppermint candies, watched the Price is Right and Walker Texas Ranger, told the scariest of stories, and made the best Pepsi Icees. She would play games for hours but especially Continental Rummy and never gave up a black two. Mam-ma made the best floor pallets with many blankets and several fans that provided the best C.U.Rs (naps). She made a roast that fed plenty, banana pudding, and her famous macaroni and cheese. She was the best cook that anybody had known and provided many meals to those who were hungry. She never missed a birth or a sporting event if she could help it. She was very proud of her family and was the most selfless person in this world. Her heart was broken the day that she lost one of her grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents, brothers; Charles and Leo, husband, and her grandson, Chad Woodward. Survivors include her children; grandchildren, Shelly Arnold (Kevin), Derek Webb (SueAnn), Mandy Lupu (Dan), Jamie Driggers (Adam), Jarah Radtke (Rob), Travis Horne (Amy), Natalie Villano (Dan), 33 great grandchildren; 9 great-great grandchildren; her best friend Geraldine Fennell, numerous other family, and friends. Family will receive friends on Monday, August 29, 2022 at 10am with Funeral service to follow at 11am at Bold City Church Chapel, 13519 N Main Street 32218, with Adam Driggers Officiating.
